A case of OLCD?

Geographically, I could get into trouble for putting the following photos on the web. We were assigned to go to a clinic this week. What makes this place worth mentioning is that everything in the office is labeled. Everything!

Take the standing fan and the chair for example.

Sorry for the bad quality. It only reflects the standard of my cheap phone. Geez, the MP3 installed in it just kamikaze-d itself the other day.

Here’s another one which almost made me explode into laughter – a labeled wall clock.

And finally, I don’t think anything can beat this. This is like the jaw-dropper of all things you can ever label.

Even the fluorescent light tube is labeled -_-“

A case of OCLD – obsessive-compulsive-labeling disorder?

P.S.: This post fits perfectly for its 'label'.

What flavour are you?

You know I’ve got used to the dollar so much so that the price of everything in ringgit seems small here. It makes me wanna buy. I can’t imagine how it would be like if I came back from UK or something.

Anyway that’s not what I wanna say here. Today’s topic is about condoms. Condoms are interesting blogthings though they sometimes get you into trouble in this highly conservative we-encourage-the-spread-of-aids country. Well it won’t be about vibrating condoms today. Today it will be about flavours.

Don’t ask me why or how but we joined a product training and one of the products happened to be Durex. Out of the wide range of Durex condoms, one had flavour. So my innocent guy friend decided to ask a highly sophisticated question in a highly intelligent manner.

“What are the flavours for? Why did they have to incorporate flavours into condoms?” (Imagine Einstein asking Hawking about the big bang)

My girl friend pretended not to hear his question. Now if you don’t know what the flavours are for, you won’t find this funny and (shame on you!).

She repeated his question to us and we felt like bursting into laughter. A guy asking that question! Doesn’t the other guy sitting next to him know the answer?

Apparently not. Thirsty (or rather, hungry) to know why, that friend of mine (oh where should I hide my face?) raised his hands during the Q&A session.

“What are the flavours in the condoms for?”

*FAINT!!!*

Of course he got his answer in a highly professional manner. No bursts of laughter. Boring.

What I find unbelievable is when we told others about this nobody laughed. Instead we got questions like, “So what are the flavours for?” and “I thought it was so it wouldn’t smell?” -_-“ Citizens of a conservative country indeed. Now, when I meet my high school friends and if they don’t laugh, I’m gonna bang my head against the wall. So please, for my loving head’s sake, laugh.

Fatso idea of a see-saw

I can never comprehend this. Look at the image below. It’s an adaptation of what academicians/books/notes/brochures used to specify which is more than the other (I'm not saying all but books/notes/brochures that I came across). Ok perhaps I shouldn’t have used human figures. Anyway just imagine they’re things labeled X and Y.

Say X is the single figure and Y is the double figure. Would you say there’s more of X or Y?

Common sense would tell you there’s more Y because it’s heavier right? Even if I only used to identical figures to represent X and Y, you would still say there's more Y right? But no, according to the sources I chanced upon, it’s actually the other way round. Which smartass came up with this!? I mean, don’t use a freaking see-saw if you wanna use height as a measure of quantity. Thanks for confusing all the kids about simple, basic physics.

The moral of the story is...

I stumbled upon the folk tales section in the library a few days ago. Up till today, I’ve read 2 books from that shelve, and I find the Canadian Inuit folk tales to be completely weird. Now, a normal story, especially a folk tale would carry a moral lesson in it, or at least a story line or something. But these Copper Eskimos, I don’t know, their stories are simply weird!

Take for example, the story of The Deceitful Raven. It is less than a page long and tells of a story of this bird who told the people of a settlement that visitors are coming and they should make way down the foot of the cliff to meet them. So they set out and when they reached the foot of the cliff, they took shelter there. Seeing this, the raven flew to the top of the cliff and when everyone was asleep he jumped and danced and caused an avalanche, burying everyone beneath it. The raven waited in eager anticipation for spring to come and the snow to disappear because he liked to peck out the eyes of the victims. The end.

Yeeeerrr~ Did you just feel a cold gush of wind? Creepy… All the tales are like that. Either kill someone, or take revenge, or no storyline at all. The Ghost Hunter is an example of one that has no purpose. It started off with this guy fearing ghosts, but he ends up living with them, and then the story changes on to his hunting trips, completely abandoning the idea of ghosts in its theme, and finally he disappeared in a bowl of water. Uh…okayyy…

And then there’s this one, Kidnapped by Wolves, talking about two wolves trying to steal a couple’s baby. The male wolf took of his skin and thus looked like a man. He walked over to the couple working in the fields and invited them to dance. Coincidentally, the couple loved dancing so they agreed. The wolf started singing magic chants and soon the couple was under his spell. Seeing their trance-like state, the female wolf sneaked into their house and ran away with the baby. Soon the couple woke up and chased after the wolves. When they found the wolves’ den, they waited till night fall to kill the wolves. When the wolves were asleep they emerged from their hiding place and ‘let their arrows fly’ killing the wolves instantly. But the female wolf had been holding their baby to her chest so (let me quote) “The arrow that pierced her chest killed the child at the same moment.” And that’s it. The end. Whoa. Award winning story. Perhaps this story does have a moral. Never dance when a wolf invites you to.

I have to say, reading what I’m blabbing here, or reading someone’s blog about what he had for dinner yesterday and the rest of the days before that, would definitely have made more sense. So the moral of the story is, don’t live in an igloo if you don’t want you brain to be frozen.

Love letter, sorta

I always get this kind of emails (what I’m going to show you next). I don’t know why I get them and I wonder if any of you gets them. Maybe it’s just me. It’s like how weird people seem to like adding my friend in facebook but nobody tries to add me (which is good) I usually delete without reading but today I thought I’d let it amuse me.

(click to show/hide)

Is he serious? Do you know how long that shit is? That’s like a thousand words. He could have just said, “I’m your perfect man, and I wouldn’t mind if you’re older than me, I would still marry you and give you all my riches.” The end.

But anyway, since he made so much effort, maybe I would too. Let’s see…ah! He’s got light blue, sea colored eyes…OooHhh I’m so all over him now. But he’s got brawn hair. Hmm…I’m not so sure about that. Wow he went to so many universities…that must mean he’s smarter than me. A little too smart. That’s bad. Bad. *shakes head* What, he’s whole family are teachers? Teachers are boring. What else…you know what? Let’s stop here. Mr. my new email, email just for You and Me, I may not know what your are (maybe an email) or some alien race by looking at your weird name, but how old are you? This is one thing I noticed. They can go on and on about how many strands of hair they have on their back but not their age.

Oh and if you asked me why I replied his previous message, you’re so gonna get the fist (after I tell you how stupidly straight you are)

P.S: Really sorry if you really read through the whole thing and your eyes bleed. I don't buy insurance.

I command you to be grumpy!

The other day I was in the lab doing lab work (duh!) and there was this guy, whom I suspect is a PhD student, who came to help out. No, ‘to observe’ would be a much more appropriate word, I personally think.

Halfway through, someone said something funny and we started to laugh, I suppose I laughed the loudest, and he turned around and said, “Please don’t laugh.” Har??? I looked at him, totally stupefied, not knowing what to say. You’re not allowed to laugh in the lab? Or you’re not allowed to laugh in front of him? I think I’ll go with the latter. What an ass.

I wanted to laugh in front of him and make him say those words again. Then I would take that golden chance which I missed out and ask him, “WHY?” We did laugh again after that, albeit not as loud (you can’t stop people from laughing just like you can’t stop a man from thinking dirty thoughts) but he didn’t say anything. What’s wrong? Why don’t you say it and give me the chance to interact? Why?

Nobody in my near 22 years of life has ever told me not to laugh. I’ve never heard it delivered to anyone else as well. I mean, you can say, “Please be quiet” or “Please don’t make so much noise” which I would totally understand if it was said in the library but in the lab? And he said “Please don’t LAUGH” not make noise or anything, just in case you’ve forgotten. What’s your problem, man? What’s your problem?? Please don't laugh? So should I cry instead?

Is it just a happy coincidence England has a Harry Pothead?

I’ve just watched the latest Harry Potter movie yesterday and it failed to live up to its standard of being able to make you go nuts. Or maybe I’m just a very difficult person to please. But really, why do people go all crazy when they see Harry Potter? I don’t mean Daniel Radcliffe, I mean the story itself. And if you’re wondering if Mr. Radcliffe himself is someone I’d go ga-ga over, the answer is no, Daniel Radcliffe failed to make my hormone levels go soaring high.

So what’s the deal with Harry Potter? Whenever a new book comes out or is coming out, the whole population of planet Earth gets excited. They would do advance bookings to make sure they are the first to get the book, and god knows what else they would do. Pfuh, you know you can’t be the first. Jeez, Rowling even bought insurance for the god damned transcript. Apparently a lawyer had to guard it all the way to its destination, wherever it was, and didn’t even dare to leave for the loo. That’s almost as absurd as J Lo insuring her ass. He could have at least brought it to the loo with him right? Or sell off the storyline to a gazillionaire Potter fan in the other end of the world and live the rest of his life in luxury with servants bringing the potty to him whenever he needs to go. Except he would be a fugitive for the rest of his days. A filthy rich fugitive. Filthy rich. I like the sound of that.

I don’t read the book so I really do not know how good it is. Once in high school, I read into the second page of the first book and lost interest. Maybe it was the wrong time. Maybe. But what I can be sure of is this: The movie is going downhill. Last year’s was shit. It sucked so much I was dumbfounded. Yet many went ga-ga over it and some watched it repeatedly till their eyes bled. This year’s wasn’t that bad, it was still okay but also confusing at the same time. What I would suggest is they make it longer and thus less confusing. They should have added in more details and developed the storyline better and made it a 3 hour movie. Or at least 2 and a half rather than a 1 hour 50 minutes movie. Come on, it’s a sure return. With the number of Potter fans around the world, the movie will earn enough to feed the African children for a decade.

What do I mean when I said not well developed? Take the Harry and Cho scenario for example. They didn’t show any clues to the love interest between them except for the miserable attempts of the director to put simple lines into Hermione’s mouth revealing Cho’s interest in Harry. That was just outright second class. Take out the kissing scene and the story would still do alright, if not better.

The only fun part was Dolores Umbridge. She chillingly resembles someone I know of. You might know who I mean. Good if you do. In the middle of the movie when Umbridge walks up to the stage to steal Dumbledore’s limelight, I started giggling slightly. Both my friends sitting on my sides turned to tell me of the astonishing resemblance between them. Truly remarkable.

So then, I still don’t know what the big deal with Harry Potter is. WarnerBros should have done a better job. Rowling, sue them.

Tree of Heaven

There’s a new drama series on TV today. The instant I turned on the TV and heard the familiar Mandarin dubbed voices, I knew it was a Korean drama. Because I missed the first 15 minutes, I didn’t know what was going on.

There was this girl who was making hand signals to this guy telling him not to enter the rooms he wanted to go in. I thought the girl was mute but I later realized it was because he couldn’t understand her language, hence the gestures. Since this is a Korean drama I thought the guy was from Japan and couldn’t understand Korean. But when he went to school he was told to introduce himself in Japanese. Huh?? Japanese school? Is this Japan? This is not a Japanese drama, is it? No!!! A Japanese drama dubbed with the typical Mandarin voices of Korean dramas!? I’m gonna puke!

It appears that I’ve got it the wrong way around. The guy is actually from Korea and everyone else is Japanese. Hmm. They all look Korean except for one bitchy girl. Wow. Confused! This is what you get when you dub a movie especially when they’re doing this mixed language thing. You don’t know who is speaking what. As I watched, I was getting more and more convinced that this is actually a Korean production because:

  1. They all look Korean.
  2. Her father’s dead, her mother remarried, and she suddenly has a step brother. Keyword: stepbrother.
  3. Her father’s sister is a bitch and ill-treats her when her mother is on her honeymoon. Clue: abusive old bitch
  4. The old bitch plans to sell away her family inn when her mother isn’t around. No brainer: This only happens in Korean dramas. You can sell away other’s properties.

Need I say anymore?

The Korean looking Japanese girl (she’s Korean, any idiot can see that) spoke quite a lot throughout the episode – compared to her stepbrother who’s completely mute – which makes me wonder, can she speak fluent Japanese? Maybe she can but I wouldn’t know because of the god damned dubbed voices. So I got curious and did a search in Youtube. Well it turns out she can but the actor playing her stepbrother probably can’t because apparently his role is autistic. Nice going, scriptwriter. Easy role. I can play that too. Put me in Bollywood and I’ll do just fine doing the Charlie Chaplin. Next thing you know, I’m standing alongside Aishwarya Rai. Yay!

I’m not going to continue watching this show because I know how it’ll go already. They’ll move to Korea somewhere in episode 3 or 4 because then they can all speak their native language. She’ll fall in love with her stepbrother and he’ll start talking because of her and love her too but they can’t be together because they’re somehow in a sibling relationship yada yada yada. The typical storyline. I really don’t understand how this thing can sell. I mean, one or two is okay but almost all? Really, nine out of 10 Korean dramas they show on TV revolves around brother-sister love and ill-treatments. Come on, don’t you have anything new? I can close my eyes, randomly type and yet come up with a better story. Here goes…

Fgnkrit ilkg ioeriefl awielsf il!

That was a line in my story writing attempt. It says “Kneel down and bow to me for I am here to conquer your world!” It’s about this weird looking man who claims to be from planet Dobadoo but he’s actually just schizophrenic or is he? You can’t read it because he speaks Dobadoo language, duh.

I wonder how their fairy tales are like. Bitchy stepmother tries to kill Snow White but she is saved by 7 midgets and soon finds out she has a stepbrother from her father’s Xth marriage, they fall in love and lives happily ever after. Or in another story, Cinderella gets ill-treated by her steps and a prince comes to her rescue but he turns out to be her brother therefore they can’t be together and her stepsister tries to seduce him and Cinderella looks on while the prince obeys stepsister yada yada yada. *shudders* Why do I have a feeling it’s all going to be the same?

Now, Korean drama fans, if you happen to do a search on the drama and read this, you can counterattack all you want. I have my bazookas ready.

Can you turn on the spaeker please?

That was not a typo. I repeat, that was not a typo.

I’ve been using this computer for 1 and a half years and I just noticed this:

Unbelievable.

Sawadee ka

Last week, Music Station was showing its viewers the singers who are famous outside Japan. They’d show a map of the country where the singers are famous in. When they mentioned Thailand, obviously they showed the map too, but for no reason, in those 2 seconds when they showed the map, I was Thai.

I shaded this myself, as how it was showed in the programme.

I didn’t know Thailand’s border was extended that far. Well it is, at least for whomever in Music Station that made that map. Does Malaysia even exist? I dare not think.

You need to know me better, trust me you do

If you noticed, I updated my blogger profile. No point looking coz it’s nothing really. I just had this urge to make profiles of myself. You know, you can brag – well not exactly – about yourself there instead of doing it in your blog and sound egoistic and all. And perhaps you can understand me better too and know why I write what I write. I can just say “read this if you wanna know why I’m saying this” instead of having to explain things. Understand? No? Never mind. I don’t too.

Since I don’t know where I can do that I started with my blogger profile. But that wasn’t enough because it was very limited so I started googling for ways I can do that. But what do I google for? I don’t even know what I want actually. Anyway I went and created a LiveJournal account. (Someone I met online said I should get one but I didn’t and we stopped our message exchanges. Got reminded of her when I thought she was someone who commented on one of my posts.) So I thought. Why not?

I’m not the kind of person who likes to create accounts. I hate them. The more you have the more you have to memorize just so you don’t leave remnants here and there and forget about them.

The part I dislike most about creating new accounts would be the part on the username. It’s either the name is taken or it’s not valid and you have to crack your head like a coconut and have all the juice sucked out and still end up with a lousy username. But I got my second choice for LiveJournal which is good.

The next would be the password. This is another part which gets me a little fickle. I’ll need something I can easily remember. I tried one and hit submit. The screen mocked me by saying my password is too easy to figure out and I’ll need a longer one and it must contain at least a number or a symbol. Fine. I entered a longer one with a number/symbol and hit submit. Again the screen threw contempt at me saying my password is too common and I’ll need a complex, convoluted, impenetrable, not so often used password. Wtf? What’s not so frequently used, you tell me! If everyone gets that message they’ll not use the simple “commonly used” passwords and in the end all LiveJournal accounts will have the “not so common passwords” which will in turn become common in LiveJournal.

Can anyone tell me where I can create a profile and link it to my blog? Then I can delete LiveJournal if I find it serves no purpose. I don’t want networking sites like Friendster please. Thank you very much. You can try figuring out my LiveJournal password if you want to. Clue: It’s long, complex, uncommon, and has a number in it.

Footnote:
I wrote this this evening but didn't post it up, I don't think I wanna make profiles anymore, or do I? I don't remember what I said and am just too lazy to reread whatever I wrote. I just want food.

Sperring resson

Here is a screenshot I captured from the anime Tantei Gakuen Q. I'll let you guess what Q is.

What? Don't know? Come on... Still no idea? Sigh. Q stands for Quarified! *disappointing look* It represents a group of students from class Q who'll take over this man's (pic) position one day. Oops spoiler, whoever that plans to watch this anime.

So this is how the Japanese spell qualified. There's something called the dictionary, ya know. You should at least check it out before you spell it out to the whole world what Q is.
